Ins and Outs of Local Pharmacy Use
As a Cerebral client, you can request to have your medications sent to the local pharmacy of your preference. The biggest difference between our partnered pharmacy and your local pharmacy is that the latter usually won't deliver medication directly to your door. In addition, the cost of your medication(s) may differ depending on your local pharmacy, whereas our partnered pharmacy typically has fixed costs.
Nonetheless, there are situations where it may be more convenient to have your prescription sent to your local pharmacy. If you would like to use this method for your medication needs, please continue reading to learn how to request this.
Requesting Refills at Your Local pharmacy
By default, Cerebral will opt to send your medication(s) through our partner pharmacy so that it’s delivered directly to your door. However, if you would like to use your local pharmacy instead, there are a number of ways to request this:
- Request during your counselor/therapy sessions
- Request during your prescriber sessions
- Send a request through the messaging portal in your account.
When requesting to have your prescription sent to your pharmacy, please make sure that you include the name and address of your preferred local pharmacy. Without this information, your care team may not be able to effectively complete your request.
Cost
Please note - Cerebral does not cover the cost of medications picked up from your local pharmacy. At times, these costs may be higher than the cost of prescriptions sent through our partner pharmacy
If you have concerns about the cost of your medication, remember that not all pharmacies are created equal. Typically, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and other large pharmacy chains are the most expensive. Walmart’s pharmacy is usually the most inexpensive.
If you’re not using insurance to pick up your medication, you may use GoodRx for your medication needs. GoodRx provides free coupons for medications that can be used in lieu of insurance and drastically reduces the cost of any listed medications. In some cases, it may reduce the cost of a prescription by 90%.
Traveling Out Of State
If you’re traveling out of state and are concerned that you may experience a coverage lapse, please reach out to your Care Team via the chat portal at least one week prior to your prescription renewal. If you know the location of where you’ll be staying, please relay the name and address of the nearest local pharmacy. Our medication management team may be able to send you a refill during your travels.
Please note - you will not be eligible to receive medication refills outside of the United States if you’re a US client, or outside of the United Kingdom if you’re a UK client.
Prior Authorizations
A prior authorization is a management process utilized by some health insurance companies to determine if the insurance company will cover a service or medication.
If your health insurance or pharmacy require a prior authorization before dispensing your prescription, please submit a request via the chat portal and provide the following information:
- A front and back picture of your insurance card submitted to support@getcerebral.com
- The name and dosage of medication you are needing a prior authorization for.
With this information, we will be able to assist you in filing a prior authorization to ensure your prescription is covered by your insurance company.
